Having visitors to Took a Leap Farm is one of our most favorite activities – we love sharing our work with others. So we make a point to welcome the community to the farm with a series of regular events.
Open Houses and Learning about Rural Living
We started a tradition of bringing the community together at our farm in the spring of 2012 with our grand opening celebration…and we’ve continued with events twice a year, in early summer and mid-fall. These open houses give everyone a chance to experience life on a small dairy, to learn about our animals, and to explore traditional rural living skills and arts. Rest assured, these events will be a regular – and important! – part of the Took a Leap Farm calendar!
Our first Harvest Celebration, which took place on October 20, 2012, included a great mix of family activities and highlighted a number of talented local craftspeople. Throughout the day, visitors could watch spinners turning fiber into yarn; a furniture-maker making a Windsor chair; blacksmiths hammering away; and more.
Our next Open House is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 10-4 — save the date!
Given the interest – from both artists and visitors – in offering in-depth learning opportunities, we’re exploring ways that Took a Leap Farm can be a center for rural learning in northern Maine. Stay tuned for more information…and if you have suggestions for classes on anything from preserving to beekeeping, chairmaking to basketweaving, please contact us!
2012 Holiday Store
In the fall of 2012, we threw open the doors – to the barn and to our farm store – in celebration of the holidays. To encourage support of local artists and producers in this busy shopping season, we stocked our farm store with a wonderful collection of hand-selected Maine-made products…including our goat cheese, of course. From stocking stuffers to under-the-tree gifts to a little something for yourself, there was something in the store for everyone! All proceeds from store sales went directly to the artist or producer.
